Indoxacarb is a new type of high-efficiency oxadiazine insecticide developed and produced by DuPont. It is mainly used to control lepidopteran pests such as cotton bollworm, cruciferous vegetable cabbage caterpillar, diamondback moth, beet armyworm, etc.

Indoxacarb is a voltage gate sodium channel blocker in insect nerve cells. Its carboxymethyl group is cleaved in the insect body to produce a more active compound-N-demethoxycarbonyl metabolite (DCJW). It exerts insecticidal activity (larvicide and oviparison) through contact and stomach poisoning, and the insects stop feeding within 3 to 4 hours, become imbalanced, paralyze, and eventually die.

Indoxacarb is not easy to decompose even when exposed to strong ultraviolet light and is still effective at high temperatures. It is resistant to rain washing and can be strongly absorbed on the leaf surface. Indoxacarb has no systemic effect, but has strong permeability (similar to abamectin).

Since indoxacarb is insoluble in water, highly effective, low-toxic, and non-chronic, in addition to controlling lepidopteran pests, it can also be made into gels and baits for the prevention and control of sanitary pests such as cockroaches, fire ants and ants. Its sprays and baits can also be used to control lawn worms, weevils and mole crickets. In the United States, indoxacarb is positioned as the only lepidopteran insecticide that can control the American Lygus.

Indoxacarb has always been in an embarrassing position of “Why there is always someone smarter than me”. Chlorantraniliprole, which went on the market in 2007, overshadowed indoxacarb in 2009, and cyantraniliprole entered the market in 2012. Therefore, indoxacarb has been in a tepid state under the weight of two bisamide insecticides. In 2017, the market responded that the resistance of chlorantraniliprole increased rapidly. Some vegetable areas have clearly proposed to ban the use of chlorantraniliprole on vegetables. Indoxacarb began to emerge from the shadow of chlorantraniliprole, highlighting its own advantages.
